Anyone providing an answer must state where they found the information so that proper credit can be given to all parties involved. And your name is listed also, as the provider of the answer.

Thanx.

Todays current question is...
This is a self-built computer, which has given me absolutely no trouble until now, with the exception of one bad DIMM chip that I replaced.

For as long as I can remember, the Windows logo screen will alternate between a very quick load, and a slow load, every other time I turn on the computer - like clockwork. It never affected the performance otherwise, so I disabled everything I didn't use on the board, checked the IRQ settings, checked out msconfig...no change, so I just ignored it. Even after I reformatted once, I did not see any change.

Anyhow, lately, my ethernet connection will drop everyday at the same exact # of hours after initial start-up. It only affects this computer. Then, I'll turn off the PC, and for some reason - the computer won't start for precisely *five* minutes. It actually won't power up at all. When I am finally able to, it will hang at the Windows logo screen. I'll turn it off once more, wait the requisite five minutes, power it back on, and everything works fine. It does this every single day.

What could be the culprit? I reset the CMOS, and DIMMs, and checked everything inside - nothing suspicious.

And later was added...

Last night, the oddest thing occurred: I was on messenger, having a voice conference, when all of my browsers disconnected from the internet - not according to the "schedule". I was able to send and receive instant messages, continue my conversation, open photo-sharing, everything...but somehow, could not ping any site at all. It was so incredibly creepy. My network connection window showed that I was still connected, and that packets were being received, but...I could not access the net anywhere else. I restarted once, and I couldn't connect to ANYTHING, then another restart - and I was back up and running. No settings, equipment, or anything has changed -- I used this PC for over a year, with no issue of this kind - especially the power ones - ever.

  This page is an ongoing effort. Any & all PC questions brought to me by my customers will be posted here along with the solution.

  Hopefully it can be of any help to others as well.

  I will try to post the sources for any answers I find as well because they deserve credit too.

================================================================

Problem;
My Computer quit for no reason.
I took it in for service and after paying for a System Restore for a presumed "Virus" problem the computer was returned.
When I got home I hooked everything up, turned on the Computer and it was dead ... again. I brought it back to the store and told them it had happened again, but when they hooked it up they said everything was working fine. When I got home the computer was dead within 20 seconds of turning it on. what gives?

Solution;
Normally I would say it was a power issue, but after connecting to a different outlet, then connecting another PC (mine) to the outlet in question everything worked fine.
Believe it or not ... the keyboard was causing a ground out to the mobo that killed the PC. $12.00 & a new keyboard later all was good.
And the store never picked up on it or questioned her hardware or peripherals.

 =============================================================   Our current question is currently undergoing a lot of debate on the website www.pcguide.com, btw... this is a great site for help if you have any problems and want good advice on what to do, I highly recommend joining, the people and staff are excellant.

So far the debate is narrowing down towards a possible power supply or router issue, especially after the last section of the problem was brought to light.

My money is on the power supply, nothing has been done to the router  but the connection still comes back and an overheated router won't come back unless the power is shut off to allow cooling, or whatever was blocking the heat from rising has been corrected, neither of which has been mentioned as been done.

I'll keep you posted!!!!
